Established in 2022, the Macquarie University Indian Society (MQIS) has been at the forefront of promoting Indian culture and fostering a sense of community among students of Indian origin and those interested in Indian traditions and festivities.
It all began in 2022 with a small group of Indian students who shared one simple goal - to create a home away from home. MQIS started as a close-knit circle of culture, connection, and community spirit, turning modest gatherings into moments of belonging.
As the word spread, the community grew stronger. 2023 marked our first full year of events, from cultural festivals to social nights that brought hundreds together under one banner. It was the year MQIS began to establish its presence, setting the foundation for bigger dreams ahead.
In 2024, MQIS transformed from a student club into a recognised community force. Membership surged past 600, event production quality reached professional standards, and our vision evolved - blending tradition with modern student culture. Each event became an experience, not just a gathering.
2025 redefined what a university society could achieve. MQIS surpassed 900 active members, hosted record-breaking sell-out events across Sydney, and unveiled a fully-integrated digital presence through our brand new website and branding. Every detail, from event staging to online design reflected precision, scale, and artistry. MQIS became synonymous with quality, setting a new benchmark for student-led innovation and cultural celebration.
What began as a community is now a legacy in motion.
